Open in App
Solution

Lac operon:

  1. Lac operon is a gene segment that helps in the regulation of lactose utilization in the body.
  2. Lac operon comprises three structural genes, i.e., lac Z, lac Y, and lac A.
  3. Lac Z gene synthesizes galactosidase enzyme which helps in the isomerization of lactose to galactose and glucose.
  4. Lac Y gene synthesizes permease that increases the permeability of the cell which helps in the uptake of B-galactosidase
  5. Lac A gene synthesizes transacetylase enzyme which helps in transferring an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to galactosides, lactosides, and glucosides.
