Question

How many terms are needed in the series 15, 12, 9, so that their sum is 18?

Open in App
Solution

Let a be the first term and d be their common difference of the AP.
Then, Sum to n terms of an AP =n2(2a+(n1)d)

Here, in the given AP,. a=15;d=12+15=3
So,Sn=18
=>n2(2(15)+(n1)(3))=18
=>n2(30+3n3)=18
=>n2(3n33)=18
=>n2(n11)=6
=>n(n11)=12×1
=>n=12
