Question

How many times an alpha particle is heavier than neutron

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Mass of neutron = 1.674929 x 10-27 Kg
Mass of proton = 1.672623 x 10-27 Kg
Mass of alpha particle = 4 * Mass of proton = 4 * 1.672623 x 10-27 Kg = 6.690492 x 10-27 Kg

Number of time alpha particle heavier than neutron
= Mass of alpha particle/Mass of neutron = (6.690492 x 10-27 Kg)/(1.674929 x 10-27 Kg)
= 3.99 = 4 (approx)
So, alpha particle is 4 times heavier than neutron.
