Question

How many tripeptides does 3 different amino acids make?

Open in App
Solution

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and proteins are long chains of amino acids.

Our body needs 20 different kinds of amino acids to function correctly. These 20 amino acids combine in different ways to make proteins in your body.

A tripeptide is a peptide derived from 3 amino acids. We can say that it is essentially three amino acid molecules joined together with the elimination of water and the formation of two amide (HNC=O) bonds.

  • Example: Alanine(A), Glycine(G), and Phenylalanine(F/P).

Glycine Alanine Phenylalanine

  • One Amino acid can make 2 tripeptides.
  • Therefore, the number of tripeptides formed by three different amino acids is 6.
  1. AGF Tripeptide
  2. GFA Tripeptide
  3. FAG Tripeptide
  4. AFG Tripeptide
  5. GAF Tripeptide
  6. FGA Tripeptide
