An emulsion is a colloid composed of two or more non-homogeneous liquid types, one of which contains the dispersion of the different liquid types.
The dispersion medium is one of the liquids, while the dispersed phase is the other. In other words, emulsions are colloids in which both the dispersion medium and the dispersed phase are liquids.
Example: Butter, paints, etc
Types of emulsion:
Emulsions are categorized into two categories based on the features of the dispersion medium and the dispersed phase. They are Oil in water emulsion and water in oil emulsion.
An oil-in-water emulsion is one in which oil is present as the dispersed phase and water is present as the dispersion medium. Example: Milk
A water-in-oil emulsion is one in which water serves as the dispersed phase and the oil serves as the dispersion medium. Oil emulsions are another name for these emulsions. Example: Butter, cold cream.
