Solution

Instructions:
  • Mention types of forests found in India
  • Explain tropical evergreen forests
  • Explain deciduous forests
Solution:
A forest is a large area covered chiefly with numerous trees and undergrowth. India has different types of forests because of their physiography and climate.

These are-
  • Evergreen forests
  • Deciduous forests
  • Thorny forests
  • Mangrove forests
  • Coniferous forests
Evergreen forests:
  • Leaf shedding: Evergreen forests are called evergreen because the trees in this type of forest do not shed their leaves in any season and appear green all year round.
  • Distribution: In India, evergreen forests are found in Northeastern parts, mountainous regions, Western Ghats and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India.
  • Trees: Some commercially important trees found in these forests are bamboo, teak, sal, mahogany, and sheesham.
Deciduous forests
  • Leaf shedding: The trees of the deciduous forests shed their leaves during the autumn season.
  • Distribution: In India, deciduous forests are found in the Vindhyachal mountain ranges, the Satpura hills, the foothills of the Himalayas, and the foothills of the Eastern and Western Ghats of India.
  • Trees: Some of the important trees that are found in deciduous forests are teak, sal, mahua, banyan and peepal.
