How many types of inertia do the material bodies have?

All material bodies can have three types of inertia. These are,

1. Inertia of rest: A body at rest continues to remain at rest unless an external force is applied to it.
2. Inertia of motion: A body in uniform motion continues to remain in motion along the same direction unless an external force acts on it. For example, a person sitting in a running bus is thrown in the forward direction when the bus stops suddenly.
3. Inertia of direction: The property by virtue of which a body is unable to change its direction of motion unless an external force acts on it, is called inertia of direction. For example, mud sticking to the moving cycle tires flies off tangentially.
