Solution

Step 1 Understanding the concept: In chemistry, when two or more substances mix with each other without any chemical change, the resulting substance is called a Mixture. Example: Air is a mixture of Nitrogen, Oxygen, and other gases like water vapor which retain their properties in air.

Step 2 Explanation: Types of mixtures

Homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures are the two main types of mixtures.

Heterogeneous mixtures:

  • Heterogeneous mixes have distinct properties and compositions in different sections of the mixture, implying that the attributes are not uniform throughout.
  • An example of a heterogeneous mixture is sand combined with salt
  • Air, and oil in water are examples of heterogeneous mixtures.
    Homogeneous mixture:
  • Homogeneous mixtures are those that have the same properties and combinations throughout their entire mass.
  • The most common homogeneous mixture is sugar mixed with water.
  • The other examples are Alloys, salt in water, alcohol in water, and other homogeneous mixtures.
