  1. Proteins are large macromolecules that are made up of more than one long chain of amino acids.
  2. Various amino acids are linked together to form proteins by a peptide bond.
  3. Different types of proteins are found in the human body, which includes-
    • Antibodies: Special types of proteins that provide us immunity by fighting off diseases and infections.
    • Contractile proteins: These proteins facilitate the sliding of contractile fibers that are present in the cytoskeleton of the cell, cardiac and skeletal muscles.
    • Enzymes: These are the protein that functions as biological catalyst and accelerates various chemical reactions going on in the body.
    • Hormones: Hormones are proteinaceous in nature and act as chemical messengers in the body by regulating the growth, development, and metabolism of the body.
    • Transport proteins: It serves as a transporter and helps in the movement of other substances in the body.
    • Several other types of proteins found in the human body are - structural proteins, storage proteins, receptor proteins, etc.
