Solution

Types of reflection

  1. Reflection is a phenomenon of light in which when a light ray hits a surface it deflects its direction and propagates back in a different path.
  2. There are mainly two types of reflection:

Regular Reflection

Irregular Reflection

Difference between types of reflection

Regular Reflection

Irregular Reflection

1. When a light ray reflects from a plane surface, it is called a regular reflection.1. When a light ray reflects back from an uneven surface, it is called an irregular reflection.
2. Hence, when parallel rays are incident on a plane surface, the reflected rays are also parallel to each other.2. Hence, when parallel rays are incident on a rough surface, the reflected rays are not parallel to each other.
3. Regular reflection generally occurs on highly reflective surfaces like mirrors, silver, and other polished surfaces.3. Irregular reflection generally occurs on rough or uneven surfaces, like an opaque object such as a book, chair, table, etc.

4. Regular reflection can be illustrated as,
