Question

How many zones are there in a flame ?

Open in App
Solution

a flame has three zones. They are:

i) The outermost zone which is the hottest among the other three zones because of continuous (or plenty) supply of oxygen and only in this zone of a candle flame, the wax completely burns. It is the non luminous part of a candle flame.

ii) The middle zone which is the luminous part of the flame, doesn't receives oxygen continuously and thus it burns the wax partially. So we can say that, in this zone of a candle flame, complete combustion occours.

iii) The innermost zone which is the coldest zone among the other three zones because here the supply of oxygen is not there due to which the wax doesn't here. So, we can thus say that here no combustion takes place.
