Question

How much amount of hydrogen (in g) is required to react with 36 g of carbon to form methane (CH4)?
  1. 12

Open in App
Solution

The correct option is A 12
Gram atomic mass of carbon = 12 g

Gram atomic mass of hydrogen = 1 g

The chemical reaction for formation of methane is as follows:

C(s)+ 2H2(g) CH4(g)12 g 4 g 16 g

Thus, 12 g of carbon react with 4 g of hydrogen to produce 16 g of methane.

Hence, mass of hydrogen required to react with 36 g of carbon = 412×36 = 12 g
