Question

How much cloth will be used in making 6 shirts, if each required 214 m of cloth, allowing 18 m for waste in cutting and finishing in each shirt ?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Calculate the length of cloth required for making one shirt

Length of cloth required for making one shirt =
Length of cloth required for each shirt + Length of cloth wasted in cutting and finishing

=214m+18m

=(2×4+14)m+18m

=(94+18)m

L.C.M. of 4 and 8 is 8.

=(18+18)m

=198 m

Step 2: Calculate the length of cloth required for 6 shirts

Length of cloth required for 6 shirts
=6× Length of cloth required for making one shirt

=6×198

=1148 m

=574 m

=1414 m

Hence, 1414 m cloth will be used in making 6 shirts.
