Question

How much current will an electric bulb draw from a 220V source, if the resistance of the filament of the bulb is 1100Ω?

Solution

Step 1- Given data and formula

  1. Potential difference V=220V
  2. Resistance R=1100Ω

Consider the electric current drawn from the source is I.

From Ohm's law, the formula for I is

I=VR

Step 2- Finding the electric current

Substituting the known values,

I=VRI=220V1100ΩI=0.2A

Hence, the electric current drawn from the source is 0.2A.
