Question

How much energy is gained by a box of mass 20kg when a man

(iii) Raise the box by 0.5m in order to place it inside the bus? (g=10m/s2)

Solution

Step 1: Given data:

Mass, m=20kg

Height, h=0.5m

g=10m/s2

Step 2: Finding the energy gained by a box:

The energy gained by a box is potential energy.

PE=mgh, where PE is potential energy, m is mass and h is height, g is acceleration due to gravity.

PE=20×10×0.5

=100J

Hence, the energy gained by a box of mass 20kg, when a man raise the box by 0.5m in order to place it inside the bus is 100J.
