Question

How much is the weight of an object on the moon as compared to its weight on the earth ? Give reason for your answer.

It is quite to lift heavy weights on the earth but it becomes very easy to lift the same heavy weights on the moon. Why?

Solution

Because the WEIGHT of the object is much less on the moon than on earth. Weight is just the downward force exerted by the planet on that body.

Weight = mass of the body * acceleration due to gravity.

Since the gravity in moon is much less than that on earth (1/6), the weight experienced is also less. A body weighing 60kg in earth weighs just 10 kg in moon.
