Question

How much volume of 18M & 4M sulphuric acid must be mixed to get 1litre of an 8M solution of sulphuric acid?

Open in App
Solution

Let us take = x litres of 18 M sulphuric and y litres of 4M solution.
Now, finally we need 1 litre of 8M solution
So, x litre + y litre = L litre
Or x + y = 1 - (i)
and, 18M×x litre+4M×y litres=8M×1 liitre
18x+4y=8 -(ii)
Solve (i) & (ii)
from (i), x+y=14x+4y=4 (iii)
(ii) - (iii) 18x + 4y = 8
4x+4y=414x=4
x=414=27
x+y=1y=127=57
So, take 47 litre of 18 M & 57 litre of 4M solution
