Question

how nuclear charge effects size of isoelectronic species ? r

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Isoelectronic Species are those atoms or ions which have the same number of electrons.
The variation of size in given isoelectronic series N 3 - >> O 2 - >> F - >> Ne >> Na + >> Mg 2 + >> Al 3 +
All the member have 10 electrons but different number of protons.
Size of the species decreases with increasing protons.
The Nitrogen ion has minimum 7 protons and Aluminium ion has maximum 13 protons so N3 - is largest and Al3 + is smallest in size.
