Answer: We know that, Oxidation is the loss of electrons from a compound, so anions are easier to oxidize. If the medium is basic, it is easier to remove hydrogen from the compound ( -OH combines with H from species) leaving a negative charge behind which can then attach to another positive species. Hence Oxidation will take place.
