Question

How RNAi silences the mrna of nematode?

Open in App
Solution

RNA interference is a process in which RNA molecules inhibits the expression of a gene by degrading the specific mRNA.
Small non-coding mRNA known as micro RNA binds to the mRNA of a nematode and inhibits its expression. This helps in silencing specific genes in an organism. This method can also be used to inhibit the infection by a nematode by gene silencing.

More :
In broad terms RNA interference refers to the process of silencing mRNA. It is done by producing a complementary strand of mRNA to which the mRNA binds and forms double stranded RNA. The ds form of RNA makes it inactive and therefore RNA is unable to perform its function.
