Question

How root/shoot ratio affects transpiration?

Open in App
Solution

A high root/shoot ratio will decrease the rate of transpiration as a vast root system will provide more water to the plant while a less vast shoot will provide less evaporation hence reducing the transpiration.
A low root/shoot ratio will increase the transpiration as the supply of water through the roots will be not enough due to increased evaporation by a larger shoot system. Hence it will increase transpiration.
