Sulphuric acid can be prepared from sulphur dioxide by reacting with oxygen and water in the presence of a catalyst. The chemical equation is are as follows:
S + O₂ (g) --> SO₂

2 SO₂ (g) + O₂ (g) --> 2 SO₃
SO₃ + H₂O --> H₂SO₄
