How synthetic detergents present as water pollutants create problems?

Synthetic detergents are generally non-biodegradable. They are not easily decomposed by bacteria present in water bodies as a result these detergent materials remain there for a long period and cause water pollution. This also affect the aquatic animals, plants present in water bodies.
