Question

How the following conversions can be carried out?
Propene to propan1ol

Open in App
Solution

For the given conversion first ethene is reacted with sulphuric acid where it forms isopropyl hydrogen sulphate as a product.
This product then undergoes hydration reaction where it forms 2-propanaol as a product.
2-propanol is then reacted with conc. H2SO4 where it forms propene as a product.
When propene underogoes hydroboration-oxidation reaction in presence of B2H6+H2O2, it forms propan-1-ol as a product.
