Monsoon winds are the most important determinant of climate in India. Rainfall in India depends on the monsoon winds. Had it not been for the monsoon winds, India would have been a parched dry land. Before the monsoons arrive in most of India during June and July, it is very hot and dry. Once monsoons arrive, the rainy season starts and temperature starts to fall. Hence, the change from the hot and dry months to the cooler and rainy season that is the characteristic of Indian climate is due to the monsoon winds.
