Reserve materials in algae:

  1. Algae are aquatic photosynthetic eukaryotic organisms.
  2. They can either be unicellular or multicellular but lack a well-defined body structure.
  3. Polysaccharides are stored as food reserves in algae whereas the polysaccharide form differs in different algal species.
  4. The food reserves is in the form of starch, oils and soluble carbohydrates.
  5. Food reserve is stored as starch in green algae, laminarin in brown algae, and floridean starch in red algae.
