How to 40 students In a class 16 study English 22 accountancy and 26 economics 5 student study English and economics 14 students accountancy economics and 2 study all the three subjects if each student studies at least one of the three subjects find the number of students who study (1)English and accountancy(2) English accountancy but not economics?

let x denote the number of students having ACCOUNTANCY +ENGLISH NOT ECONOMICS

and total students = 40

only english = 11-x

only accountancy = 12-x

only economics = 5

(11 - x) + x + (12 - x) + 2 + 3 + 12 + 5 = 40

=> -x + 45 = 40

=> x = 5

therefore, ACCOUNTANCY +ENGLISH-ECONOMICS = 5

and number of students of ENGLISH+ACCOUNTANCY = x+2 = 7
