Question

How to balance the following chemical equation S+HNO3---->H2SO4 + NO2+H2O by ABCD Method .

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
The chemical reaction between sulphur and nitric acid is as follow:

S + HNO3 ------------> H2SO4 + NO2 + H2O

The balanced chemical equation will have the equal number of atoms on both side of the reaction.

Therefore first make the no. of atoms equal.

S 1 = S 1

H 6 = H 6

O 18 = O 18

N 6 = N 6

This ratio of atoms should be present on both side of the reaction

The balanced chemical equation is as follows.

S + 6HNO3 ---------> H2SO4 + 6NO2 + 2 H2O
