Question

How to calculate pH level?

Open in App
Solution

Mathematically pH can be defined as
pH=-log[H+]
It is a measure of the acidity or basicity of aqueous solution. Pure water is said to be neutral, with a pH close to 7.0 at 25 oC.
the pH is found by using pH paper.an acid will turn blue litmus to red and a base will turn red litmus to blue.
the other way is the addition of the solution to litmus solution.litmus solution is purple in colour.an acid will turn litmus solution from purple to red and a base addition will turn it into blue.

if we want to find the pH of a 10-3 N solution, then the pH is calculated as
pH=-log [10-3]=3
Hence the pH of the solution is 3.
If the pH value lies between 0 to 7, then solution is said to be acidic
If the pH value lies between 7 to 14, then the solution will be basic.
If the pH value is 7, then the solution is neutral.
