Question

How to calculate the equivalent weight of ferrous ammonium sulphate?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Equivalent weight formula:-

The equivalent weight of any element can be calculated using the formula;

Equivalentweight=MolecularweightX

Where, X=valence factor,

The valence factor for acids and bases is represented as the number of H+andOH- ions they release in the solution, respectively.

Step 2: Calculation of the equivalent weight for ferrous ammonium sulfate:-

The chemical formula of Ferrous ammonium sulfate is FeSO4.(NH4)2SO4.6H2O.

In Ferrous ammonium sulfate, there are no charged ions present in the molecule.

As only a single entity is present in the solution the valence factor in the case of ferrous ammonium sulfate is X=1.

Therefore, Equivalentweight=Molecularweight1

or, the given equivalent weight = molecular weight of Ferrous ammonium sulfate = 392.13gmol-1.

Hence, the calculated equivalent weight of copper sulfate is found to be 392.13gmol-1.
