Question

How to calculate the gravitational field due to a point mass?

Open in App
Solution

EG =GM/(r^2).

Look at this example.
Calculate the gravitational intensity due to a point mass 100 kg at a distance of 10 m.
Given: G = 6.67 x 10^-11 Nm^2/kg^2.

Solution:
Given: Mass of body = M = 100 kg, Distance from mass = 1 m, G = 6.67 x 10^-11 Nm^2/kg^2. To Find: Gravitational intensity; EG = GM/r^2

EG=
(6.67×10^-11 ×100 )/(1^2)

=6.67×10^-9 N/kg
