Question

How to calculate the value of g at the surface of the Moon? (M=7.35x1022kg,R=1738km)

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Mass of moon M=7.35x1022kg

Radius of moon R=1738km=1738×103m

We know that the value of gravitation constant,

G=6.67×10-11Nm²/kg²

Step 2: Calculate acceleration due to gravity of the Moon

We know that the acceleration due to gravity can be given as,

g=GMR2

Upon substituting the values we get,

g=6.67×10-11×7.35×10221738×1032

=1.623m/s2

Hence, the value of g on moon is 1.623m/s2.
