How to connect an ammeter to a cell?How will that connection be different from that of a voltmeter?

Ammeter is a device used to measure current and Voltmeter is a device used to measure voltage . In both the instruments , there is a coil suspended between the poles of a magnet . When a current is passed through the coil, it deflects


The difference is that :-
  • In an ammeter , a small resistance is shunt [ parallel mode] with the coil . The current to be measured is by connecting ammeter series with the segement .
  • In an voltmeter , a high resistance is conected series with the coil . The voltage to be measured is by connecting voltmeter parallel with the segement .
The figure below shows the series mode of ammeter to the segment

The below figure shows the parallel mode of voltmeter to the segment
