Question

How to find the molecular mass of Potassium Carbonate (K2CO3)?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Concept of Molar Mass

The total sum of masses of atoms or elements present in the molecule is known as molecular mass.

It is calculated by adding total masses of elements present in the overall molecule.

Step 2: Determination of Molecular Mass of Potassium Carbonate

In Potassium carbonate (K2CO3), The atomic mass of Potassium=39

This Compound has 2 potassium molecule then 39×2=78

The Compound has 1 carbon molecule and the weight of carbon=12×1=12

Oxygen molecule present in this compound is 3 so, total weight of oxygen= 16×3=48

Total sum of Masses=

78+12+48=138u

Therefore, Molecular mass of potassium carbonate(K2CO3)=138u
