A species is often defined as a group of individuals that actually or potentially interbreed in nature, capable of reproducing fertile offspring.

Parents and children are not different species. They both come under the same species - Humans.
Genetic variation occurs even with in the species. There are even different breeds of dogs, but all the breeds come under the same species - dogs.
