The steps to measure length using a ruler are given below:
Step 1: Choose the unit in which you want to measure length. If you want a value in centimeters, then take the centimeters side of the ruler. If in inches, then take the inches side of the ruler.

Step 2: Place the object beside the ruler starting from point 0 on it.

Step 3: Look at the endpoint and mark the value. For example, in the above figure, the length of the pencil is from 0 to 8 cm.

Hence, the difference will give the length of the pencil.
