How to memorize or guess colour of any compound?
Mostly elements of s and p block forms colourless compounds, but compounds of transition elements shows vibrant colour. However, molecular bromine is brown in colour and molecular iodine shows violet colour.
For example :- Colour of KMnO4 is deep violet, K2Cr2O7 is orange in colour, HgI2 has a bloody red colour, colour of AgI is yellow etc.
Fe+2 ions generally forms green coloured compound. CuSO4 is blue in colour in hydrated form whereas it is white in anhydrous forms. Cl- ions forms white coloured salt. So,
CuSO4 = blue in hydrous and white in anhydrous forms.
CuCl = white in colour
FeSO4 = pale green
