Question

how to name cyclic compounds with substituents like ester, amide, amine?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The naming of cyclic compounds are done in a similar way as of straight chain compounds. The functional groups such as -COOR, -CONH2, -NH2 is used as a suffix while the name of the ring is used as a prefix. The priority must be assigned according to the priority table.
For eg. C6H5CONH2 is called benzamide where benzene is the ring and amide is the functional group attached.
