Question

How unsaturated solution changes into a saturated solution?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1 Understanding the concept: A solution is a form of a homogenous mixture made up of two or more components. A solute is a substance that is dissolved in another substance, known as a solvent. For example, salt in water is a solute and water acts as a solvent.

Step 2 Saturated and Unsaturated solution:

  • When a solution can still dissolve more solute, it is said to be unsaturated.
  • A saturated solution is one in which there is so much solute that it would not dissolve if there was any more. When a saturated solution comes into touch with more solute, the extra solute does not dissolve or deposit.

Step 3 Convert an unsaturated solution into a saturated solution:

When heat is applied to a saturated solution, the interparticle gap expands due to an increase in particle kinetic energy, allowing more solutes to dissolve in the solution and therefore making it unsaturated.
