At the time of the French Revolution, the National Assembly which existed from June 13 ,1789 to July 9, 1789 was created by the revolutionary members of the Third Estate. It was a revolutionary Assembly. The Assembly was formed when members of the third estate broke away from the Estates General because they were denied majority voting power despite the fact that the Third Estate was the largest estate. Due to this dispute, the members of the third estate decided to meet on its own on May 28, 1789. They declared themselves to be the national assembly on June 13 of that year.
Two provisions of the decree passed by the Assembly on August 4, 1789 were
1. Abolition of feudalism in France.
2. Abolition of the seigneurial rights of the Second Estate (the nobility) and the tithes gathered by the First Estate (the Catholic clergy).
