The water is purified at large scale in water treatment plants.
Following three steps are involved for purification of water at large scale:
Sedimentation: In this process, all the large impurities are removed from the water.
Filtration: In this process, the water is filtered through different types of filters that trap the minute impurities present in the water.
Disinfection: In this process, the water is disinfected to remove the remaining microorganisms from the water. Chlorine tablets are added to water for this purpose.
