Question

How water loss is prevented in desert plants?

Open in App
Solution

  1. In desert plants leaves are either very small or converted to spines. To minimize water loss from aerial organs, the leaves become small or form spines. E.g. Cactus.
  2. The stem is green and fleshy in some plants. Stems are green and succulent as they use it to store water and carry out photosynthesis.
  3. They have a waxy covering which helps to retain water. E.g. Cactus.
