For ages, forests have been utilized by the Adivasis and villagers for hunting, gathering and grazing the cattle.
They practiced and often continue to practice shifting cultivation which is also known as Jhum cultivation.
Wood from the forests was used for making homes and tools.
Adivasis also sold certain forest produce to buy things they needed from the market, such as salt and iron. They did not sell the other things that they got from the forests such as wood etc to earn a profit.
