Question

How will genetic engineering affect human evolution in the future?

Open in App
Solution

Genetic engineering:

  1. Genetic engineering is the modification of a living organism's genetic information through the direct manipulation of its genes.
  2. Genetic engineering has been used in a variety of fields.

This genetic modification process may have the following effects on human evolution:

  1. The transgene product may be toxic or cause allergies.
  2. It has the potential to disrupt organisms' genetic setup and cause genetic pollution.
  3. They may even replace important genes that have been mutated. As a result, this may result in another health condition or disease in humans.
  4. Furthermore, as defective genes are replaced with functional genes, genetic diversity is expected to decrease, and if humans have identical genomes, the population as a whole will be susceptible to viruses or any form of the disease.
