Question

How will the equations of motion for an object moving with a uniform velocity change?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Equation of motion for moving objects

We know the formulae of kinematics for moving bodies

s=ut+12at2...........(1)

v2=u2-2as.............(2)

v=u+at.................(3)

where v and u are the final and initial velocities, s is the distance traveled by the object, a is the acceleration due to gravity and t is the total time taken by the object to travel.

Step 2: Uniform velocity

  1. Uniform velocity change means the acceleration is zero.
  2. For the case of uniform velocity, final velocity = initial velocity. This means no force is acted on the object.

Step 3: Equation of motion of an object with uniform velocity

For uniform velocity, finalvelocity-initialvelocity=0.

And acceleration is zero.

Now, the three equations of motion are (From equations (1), (2), (3) )

S=utv2-u2=0v=u.

So, the equations of motion are S=ut, v2-u2=0 and v=u.
