How will you calculate the speed of a body from a distance-time plot, under the following conditions.
(a) The body is at rest
(b) The body is moving with uniform speed.

  1. The slope of the distance-time graph gives the speed of the body.
  2. (a)
    (i) If the body is at rest then distance remains constant with respect to time.
    (ii) Slope of the distance-time graph is zero, hence the speed of the body is zero.

    (b)
    (i) If the body is moving with uniform speed then distance change uniformly with respect to time.
    (ii) Slope of the distance-time graph can be positive or negative.
