Open in App
Solution

For the preparation of formaldehyde from ethanol. ethanol is first converted into ethene by reacting it with H2SO4 at 443K.
The ethene so obtained undergoes ozonolysis followed by hydrolysis with Zn and H2O to form formaldehyde as a product.
CH3CH2OHethanolconc.H2SO4−−−−−−443KH2C=CH2(i)O3−−−−−−(ii)Zn/H2O2HCHOformaldehyde+ZnO
