A Eureka can is a can with a spout near the top, named after the great scientist and philosopher Archimedes.
An irregular object whose density is to be calculated is tied to a string and immersed in the can, which contains water till the spout, as shown in the figure.
Water overflows through the spout and gets collected in an empty measuring jar kept at the mouth of the spout.
The volume of the water collected in the measuring jar directly gives the volume of the irregular object.
From the mass that has already been measured using a physical balance and the volume of water displaced, the density of the given object can be calculated.
