Question

How will you prepare a saturated solution of sodium chloride in water at 25°C? What will happen if this solution is cooled to 10°C?

Solution

Saturated solution: A solution in which no more solute can be dissolved in a definite amount of solvent at a given temperature is called a saturated solution.

Solute: Solute is the minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.

  1. Take a measured volume of water in a beaker and warm it at 25°C.
  2. Add Sodium chloride(NaCl) pinch by pinch at constant stirring until no more Sodium chloride is dissolving in the water.
  3. As a result, we will obtain a saturated solution of Sodium chloride.
  4. When the temperature is lowered from 25°Cto10°C, some of its dissolved solutes will separate into solute crystals due to the decrease in solubility of the solute.
