All alcohols containing grouping $C H_{3} C H O H$ linked to C or H atom that is methyl carbinols gives iodoform test(yellow ppt) when treated with NaOH or $N a_{2} C O_{3}$ and $I_{2}$ at $333 - 343$ K.

Iodoform was used earlier as an antiseptic for wound dressing. Its antiseptic properties are due to liberation of $I_{2}$ when it comes in contact with skin.
